About
Daniel Connolly is an Illustrator and Printmaker based in Lincolnshire, UK.
Whilst studying for his BA (Hons) in Illustration, Daniel was encouraged to explore printmaking as an extension of his early pen-and-ink line work. This exploration developed a love for intaglio processes, specifically copper plate etching.
After leaving the confines of the well-stocked university print room, Daniel built a small, self-sufficient home studio, where he continues to produce his work using traditional processes.
Working primarily in black or sepia inks, his subjects range from anatomical and architectural studies to landscapes, seascapes and, more recently, automotive and aerospace themes. Select pieces are hand-finished with watercolour and gouache, with others incorporating surface roll printing technique to introduce colour and gradients.
Daniel’s interest in architectural illustration led him to complete an MSc in Building Surveying, further expanding his understanding of architecture and the built environment alongside his traditional illustration and printmaking practice. Coming full circle, Daniel has since returned to his creative practice and now works as a full time printmaker, producing hand-etched copper plates and printing editions from his home studio.
